i like the background, the silhouette of the buildings, the details and the choice of a purple sky. there is symmetry and balance in the composition but the way you framed your work is rather odd. a simple rectangle frame (with or without rounded edges) should do the trick.
I'm going to do what you've said. I dont really like the border myself.
